HONED is a fine jewelry boutique and atelier located in the vibrant & historic neighborhood of Capitol Hill, Seattle. Opening its doors February 1st, its intention is to highlight the finest quality jewelry handmade by talented designers from across the country.
HONED is the creation of Claire Kinder Barrett, founder and designer of the jewelry line, Claire Kinder, and her fiancé, Charles Andrews. Both came of age in Brooklyn, NY, where they just recently relocated from. They bring a unique perspective in curation that focuses on products that are enriching in their understated sensuality.
Claire bring 7 years of fine jewelry sales and customer service in NYC with her, as well as 12 years of bench experience as a jeweler. She graduated with a BFA in traditional silver and gold smithing from Pratt Institute in 2008. Originally from the forest of Vermont, and having come of age in Brooklyn, NY, Claire has been obsessed with the Pacific Northwest for many years. She intended to move to Portland after graduating, but a few short months after leaving the safely of school, the 2008 recession hit, and there were no jobs anywhere but NYC. After another 9 years in Brooklyn, the time was right to finally escape to Seattle. Claire says, "I always knew it would be one of the two cities but was always torn. To me, both represent the best aspects of my origins in Vermont, and the city I came of age in, NYC. We love Portland, but eventually chose Seattle for its beautiful vistas and growing economy".
Claire is the design/curation side of HONED while Charlie brings many years of public relations and event management to the duo. With her creative skills and his gregarious outreach skills, they aim to make the name HONED well know in the northwest and rest of the country.
